“Luxury is to be able to take control of one’s life, health, and the pursuit of happiness in a way that is joyful. My memory of luxury is running through white sheets drying in the fresh air on a clothes line, in the backyard of my grandmother’s home, when I was a child. That, and watching my great-grandmother boil the white sheets in a black cauldron pot under the peach trees in summer, stirring the boiling water with a large wooden branch from the tree and constantly making the fire larger to increase the whiteness and cleanliness of the sheets.”
